Who We Are:
H-D Electric is a true cooperative. We are a private, non-profit electric utility owned by the members it serves. Our membership covers a range of home, farm, business and commercial consumers in Hamlin and Deuel counties as well as a portion of Brookings, Clark, Codington, Grant, and Kingsbury counties in South Dakota and Yellow Medicine and Lincoln Counties in Minnesota.
Your participation is vital to the cooperative's continued success. It is the leadership you elect - your Board of Directors - that guides the operation of the cooperative and sets policies that put people first. The elections are held at the Cooperative's annual meeting, typically in the early spring. A director from each of the nine (9) districts (see map under Board of Directors) is chosen for your representation. The members ultimately control the cooperative - people working for people.
Our Sources Of Electric Power:
H-D Electric, through its ownership in East River Electric Power Cooperative, shares in the ownership and control of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a cooperative that owns and operates a number of large electric power generating units. Major sources of electric energy for Basin Electric include the Antelope Valley, Laramie River and Leland Olds Generating Stations. H-D also obtains a portion of its energy requirements from the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), a federal agency that owns and operates 55 hydroelectric power plants in eleven states.

In order to ensure that members are kept informed on events at the Cooperative, H-D has developed it's own publication. As a member, you will receive H-D Electric Cooperative Connections every month. This publication includes articles on local issues at the Cooperative as well as national events affecting our industry.
